Primestars is known as the private tutor for public education in South Africa that specializes in facilitating youth development programmes for high school learners from underserved communities.
They use an “Educational Theatre of Learning” model to enhance the educational process particularly for disadvantaged youth in South Africa. Because films and TV shows are an integral part of any learner’s life, they introduce short films into the curriculum to create an entertaining and enjoyable way to process and retain information. They run the youth development programmes nationwide.
They get funding through the private and public sectors to enable them to do the good work they do and bring education to those who would otherwise not have access to it.
Primestars has previously been called “the Uber of education” by the Sunday Times. Although they don’t own any schools, they are currently the biggest virtual place of learning in the country, improving the lives of 90 000 young South African underprivileged youth per annum, one educational cinema at a time.
The National Youth Awards, from the Step Up 2 A Startup programme, was held to recognise the top achievers in youth entrepreneurship and financial literacy. The ideas presented by the young entrepreneurs included a platform to help young people find jobs during the school holidays; an app to locate products in a nearby mall; scanning and accessing prices of items in stores, and even an app providing support to young people experiencing anxiety and depression.
We provided our Flock App with an event listing for the event, which contained a fully-customised app for all the details of the event including all event info; a showcase of the young entrepreneurs and their business ideas; social feed; speakers; attendees; photos; videos; PDFs and more. The event managed to bring stakeholders and beneficiaries together and using the digital platform of the app, users were able to access everything they needed with ease.
