Something people have struggled to get their head around with virtual events is if and when they should be charging for attendance. There are a few ways to go about it and it doesn’t only have to be through the traditional way of charging for ticket sales (though that will be our first point!). Read on for more ideas.
We’ve got some amazing Virtual Event tricks up our sleeves, and here’s just one of them:
An easily accessible, formal or informal auditorium set-up for your guests to network amongst each other by walking around, browsing the exhibition, and then gathering in the same room together for the actual conference to start. All this through a PC (no special hardware required!)
The live polling feature on our mobile app is always a hit at events. It doesn’t only give you a chance to get interesting feedback from guests, but it’s a great way to get everyone at the event working together, interacting and engaging.
Recently we held an event for a conference that ended up with 3 times (!) the amount of anticipated attendees, all able to retrieve their CPD points after attending! The event managed to connect guests from all over South Africa to listen to top speakers in their field, get up to speed with developments in their industry, and stay at the forefront of their profession. The event was filled with expert information, high engagement and interaction from all guests, with Live Polls, Live Q&A, commentary, speaker ratings and ice breakers.
Being able to attend an entire event virtually felt very futuristic until a few months ago when tech improved dramatically and new health situations encouraged us to change our view on traditional events. So, we have great news (and a solid solution for event planners that still need their events), with some attendees hesitant to travel or unable to be (physically) in one place all together.
Overlooking the beautiful Table Mountain and Cape Town Foreshore, the Colourlab’s spectacular industrial building is a versatile venue suitable for all kinds of events.
In amongst all the impressive events we have been able to be a part of, we have also spent a lot of time improving the features of our apps to enhance the experience for attendees, and ease of communication by our event planners.
As you may know by now, we are well into providing Virtual Events – through Mobile Event Apps to Event Websites (which we’ve been doing for years!) – but now everything can be even more neatly packaged for an Online Event experience that your attendees will love.
We’ve done a few upgrades to our system to better cater for a better online experience, as follows:
Over the last few months, we have spent time crafting and re-designing the back end of our platform to make it even better and improve the experience for our clients. From the Multiple Events Dashboard to the Email Design functionality, through to the Mobile App Design Module, and the Exportable Reports – it has all had a facelift.
What did we do and how did we communicate urgent alerts before this feature?
- Create your app on the Flock Platform
- Market your event and app download on your event day(s)
- Live stream your event & various breakaways for guests through the app
- Provide all documents and downloads for guests to access
- Encourage guest engagement & connecting with push notifications
- Get feedback and analytics

We’re firmly entrenched in the age of mobile. We work, play, and do everything in between on the device in the palm of our hands. Thanks to the fact that there’s an app for everything under the sun, our mobile phones have become an integral part of our lives. In fact, eMarketer reportsthat mobile apps account for a whopping 90% of time spent on our phones.
But what does this mean for event managers who’re tasked with ensuring their event is engaging enough for even the most ardent mobile phone user? The answer is simple: instead of fighting the mobile-first mindset, embrace it.
The special applies to absolutely everything on our full eventing platform. This includes event websites, email campaigns and RSVP management, project management, custom mobile apps, Flock app listing...
One of our current favourite trends being mentioned in the industry is Live Streaming Events, and we have a couple of reasons why we love it. Live Streaming is about being able to record one (or multiple) sessions at events, and having those streamed live to an online platform that is integrated with a channel where attendees can access this live stream.
Ever been at an event that could have done with a bit more… fun? Ever thought that the speakers could engage the crowd a bit more, or that you’ve got some burning questions you’d love to ask but would rather not be subject to the traditional “roving mic”? The reality is, you probably aren’t the only one thinking that, and the good news is that we have a solution!
